Policymakers can learn from Santa Rosa’s recovery from the 2017 Tubbs Fire. By balancing interests and streamlining processes, officials can not only guide their communities toward a swift recovery, but also can make meaningful headway in solving California’s broader housing crisis.
The Rose Institute’s mission is anchored by its ambition “to produce high quality research.” Our projects explore a range of state and local government policy and governance topics throughout Southern California and the state as a whole.
The Rose Institute of State and Local Government was founded in 1973 at Claremont McKenna College to provide objective research on the challenges facing state and local governments while maintaining a steady focus on the education and development of its student research assistants.
For generations, the Rose Institute has maintained a close-knit community among its faculty, staff, students, board members, and alumni. Teams of faculty, staff, and students work collaboratively on the Institute’s research projects, and board members and other alumni mentor students and actively engage in Rose Institute programs.
